Deforestation

Trees is one of the Mother Nature that covers over 30% of the earth’s surface but sadly they are being destroyed at an alarming rate each year to make way for development, especially in the tropics. Rain forest are being felled for at least 40 hectares every minute! It is calculated that the world will be left with less than one third of its rain forest by the year 2000 if the felling and firing of the forests continues at present rate.

Nigeria, Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Indonesia, North Korea, Nepal, Panama and Guatemala are among the top ten countries having the worst deforestation rate for the year 2000-2005. (I've yet to discover the latest current state of deforestation..) I got this from Mongabay.com

Nowadays forests are being destroyed for the importance of development especially in developing countries by felling and firing activities. From my reading, there are many reasons behind deforestation which is mainly focuses on :

1-Agriculture - unsustainable agricultural practices such as cattle raising and soybean production has accidentally increasing the causes of deforestation in order to fulfill the world's market and I realized that I'd have to think twice again about making soybean as one of my favorite drink. Byk lagi..kicap..tempe..haha. Other than that, hamburgers in the US (read carefully, HAM), meat in Europe and paper in high income countries also contributes in deforestation. Conclusion is : SAY NO TO EXAMS!

2-Logging - want me to explain further on logging??

3-Infrastructure expansion - road building and urbanization. Who's in charge? Menteri Kerja Raya? haha..so for those civil engineers, do something environmental-friendly..

Thus, the removal of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in environmental pollution and affected the world economy. Therefore, the best way to curb this matter is by reforestation, forest plantation, forest management, and using environmental-friendly techniques.

Deforestation is the most discussed issue of all time since it is important for development especially in agriculture. Hence, we learned that forests play an important role in our daily lives that it should be conserved for the future generations.
